I Thought About Blue Hair But I Wussed Out And Chose Purple.

It was 1999, just after New Year’s. I was living and studying abroad in Germany, amongst many. One of my besties at the time thought it would be a good idea to color her blond hair with Starry Night by L’Oreal Feria.

During our time off for the holiday we all ventured off to other places. I spent with family I knew and my friend traveled to Rome to visit her college boyfriend and his family.

She liked this guy more than he liked her and she was trying hard. While on this trip he told her how he likes dark haired, dark eyed, dark skinned girls. She was the opposite.

So, like many women, she felt it wise to alter her appearance to match his desire. She’s not the first or the last woman to make a choice in hopes to win approval, even though it went against her natural look.

I remember knocking on her door to say hey and catch up after not seeing each other for a few weeks. She wouldn’t open it. At least not right away.

Her hair looked terrible. The blue dominated. The black looked washed out. It was not a good look.

In her honor, I wanted to color my hair blue. However, I was scared off by the black. I love my hair being a dark rich color, but for now I wanted to start with the purple. I used to color my hair purple regularly, but the past few years plain dark brown was as wild and crazy as I was getting. The purple is baby steps. I wanted to see how it turned about before committing to blue.

The Results Did Not Disappoint

I love it! I love my hair now. I’m excited and I know now I can bo blue next time.
